Stalls

This is another photo from my holiday, as I still have many to upload and so little time to take new pictures!! I took this photo on the first full day of our holiday when we went shopping.

As described in a previous post, the shopping centre opens out to reveal a long high street with small pathways spiralling off of it. I’ve visited the same place several times, so I’ve been down most of them. The trouble is that they ALL lead to another winding alley, which leads to another and another, and so on.

I walked a little further down the street before turning off this time, and I found two large archways in what seemed to look like a long forgotten part of town. I heard noises so walked in to see what was going on and was faced with the buzz of a traditional market place.

I took this picture using ISO 1600 so that I could get a fast enough shutter speed whilst still being able to use an aperture of F8 to get a deeper depth of field. I didn’t do any editing apart from noise removal, as I wanted to keep the photo as close to the original as possible.

It’s near impossible to find the same streets more than once, but I certainly hope that I’m able to find this one again- I love it!!! Retro sweets anyone?

The Best Cocktail

I’m afraid I haven’t had chance to go for a walk today, but I have another picture that I’d like to share from my party. There definitely isn’t a better use of a cocktail glass than this!

The table decorations were themed around sweets, with lollipops scattered around the table, love hearts on the side plates and cocktail glasses of mixed sweets in the centre. Needless to say these didn’t last long, but I managed to get a picture before they disappeared.

I love how everything on the table is white, while the contents of the glass are colourful; it makes the sweets stand out in the foreground. I really like how you can see the sugar dusted on some of the sweets, and the light on the rim of the glass.

On another celebratory note, the blog is 4 months old today. Happy birthday Daily Wanders!!!

Picnic

It was a gorgeous day yesterday so Mat and I went to our local park for a mini picnic and to soak up some sunshine (a bit too much in my case, I’m a lovely strawberry shade!). I packed some jelly babies but Mat got there first, so this was all that was left.

I’ve seen some interesting shots of sweets before, and thought I’d try my own version. I held the camera just outside of the opening to the packet and used a focal length of 45mm to distort the picture slightly. Also, I used a large aperture to get a shallow depth of field, meaning only the front few sweets were in focus.

 I love how you can read the writing on the outside of the packet; I think it adds interest. I think my version of a macro sweet photo came out quite well, and the picnic was lovely!!!

Jelly beans

This is another photo of our set-up shots from yesterday, taken on Bex’s Olympus DSLR camera. We used some jelly beans as a subject (even though they didn’t last very long!). I really liked the reflections given off by the Perspex sheets and the different, bright colours of the beans themselves. The photo is very crisp and the contrast is good as well. We really enjoyed doing our set-up shots, and there will be many more in the near future.

Today is our 50^th post! Bex and I would really like to thank every one of you for being so loyal and returning to our blog, day after day. We both really hope that you will stick with us for more of our daily wanders in the future.

Sweet!

For today’s post, I am admitting to the theft of what seems to be Mat’s current catch phrase!

Today was May Day meaning you might have got an extra long weekend. May Day is the time when we like to welcome in the brighter weather, perhaps with music and fairs in your local area. Where I live is no exception, and each year there is a choice of at least 3 events. However, today tradition was thrown out the window; we seemed to be celebrating the rain that has felt somewhat endless over the last 3 weeks.

I have always gone to a local village to celebrate May Day and even though the sun wasn’t shining as it should be, nobody seemed deterred by the need to take shelter in the marquees.

I always find indoor photography more of a challenge, as artificial lighting can sometimes have a different effect to natural light. I took this picture in one of the marquees with a string of lights overhead. I don’t class this picture as a success in the conventional sense- but I like how the colours have become slightly over saturated; I think it gives a more vintage effect.

I love this picture, and I’m pleased that it didn’t need editing and is different to what I might normally post.
