Man's Best Friend

Today was the last day of our holiday; I really didn’t want it to end. Tomorrow is back to normal so I shall upload a photo from the holiday to try and keep the memory alive in my imagination as long as possible.

Today’s photo is of my crazy dog! Bex was playing a game of fetch with him in a field. He was waiting for Bex to throw his favourite toy and he was holding his front paw up (which for anybody with a Springer Spaniel will know is they’re stereotypical pose).

Bex had left me with her D-SLR; it already had a telephoto lens on it which is great for taking pictures of my dog (he doesn't stop!). I crouched down so that I could take the photo at his eye level for a better perspective; I also chose a fast shutter speed of 1/800^th of a second so I could freeze him as he ran with the water droplets flying off him.

I like this photo; it really catches the spirit of him waiting. I didn’t edit the photo because I didn't want to change how he looked; the photo captured every detail of him correctly.

I’m really going to miss my holiday away with Bex, but never the less it's back to reality. We took a lot of photos while we were away, so expect many more photos in the next few weeks of what we got up to while on holiday! I hope you really enjoy our holiday photos and seeing what we got up to.

Cooling off

It’s been unbearably hot all week and I’m beginning to feel summery! Clearly I’m not the only one, as I found out when I saw this dog in the local nature reserve today.

I haven’t had a lot of time to myself recently, so I especially enjoyed my walk today. I walked down to the local lake and sat by the water for about half an hour as I watched the world go by. At one point, a woman and her dog walked down the pathway. The dog was clearly feeling the heat so took a running jump into the lake, landing with a huge splash, then emerged and shook off.

I was quick enough that I managed to capture the dog shaking off the water droplets. Later, I uploaded the pictures to my laptop but I couldn’t see the water droplets clearly, so decided to try it in black and white.

I love how clearly the droplets can be seen. I think it works really well in black and white and I love how the sun reflects on the water. Let’s just hope the weather stays this nice all weekend!

Hello World!

This will, with any luck, be our first post of many!!!

Allow us to introduce ourselves- two lucky idiots who have managed to acquire an SLR. We normally fill our days by wandering round our local area and hopefully getting lucky with some shots jumping out at us. We’ll try to bring you some close ups of the world around us and perhaps a few random pictures like this!

First off, I’m Bex, I have a strong passion (perhaps obsession!) for photography. I’m in love with my camera, an Olympus E-500. ­My favourite shots are the ones that show the most detail, showing things that you wouldn’t often see at first glance. However, I do love the odd spur-of-the-moment picture.

Secondly I’m Mat. I enjoy taking photos of just about anything, from machines to close ups of swans! I’m one of those patient people that don’t mind waiting to set up the perfect shot before taking it. I don’t have my own camera just yet, so for now I borrow Bex’s when I’m allowed! I plan on purchasing my own camera soon, preferably a Pentax K-r.

I (Bex) took this picture today while on the way to our local woods. I sat down on the floor trying to gain a different perspective for another shot when I saw this opportunity. This inquisitive dog lumbered towards me, ears swinging so I took the chance.
